PITTSBURGH – Pirates fans will soon be able to relive one of the greatest moment in the franchise’s history thanks to a donation to the Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum.
Businessman Thomas Tull, a member of the Steelers’ ownership group, and his wife Alba donated Bill Mazeroski’s uniform and bat from Game 7 of the 1960 World Series to the museum.
Mazeroski hit the winning home run in the bottom of the ninth of Game 7 against the New York Yankees to give the Pirates their third World Series title in franchise history. It remains the only walk-off home run in World Series history.
The uniform, along with the bronzed 35-inch Louisville Slugger bat, will join several other items from the 1960 World Series, including the pitching rubber from Forbes Field, as well as a lifelike figure of Mazeroski hitting the famous home run.
The bat and uniform will be on view immediately in the History Center’s fourth-floor Special Collections Gallery, while it will receive professional conservation treatment in preparation for its installation in the Sports Museum’s baseball exhibition.
