Pittsburgh (WJAC) — Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Joey Porter Jr. has been named as the team's Rookie of the Year.
Porter, who was selected in the second round of the 2023 draft, is just the third Steelers' cornerback to win the "Joe Greene Great Performance Award," joining Delton Hall in 1987 and Chad Scott in 1997.
Porter is the son of former Steelers' linebacker Joey Porter, and much like his father, he has made a name for himself with his aggressive style of play.
Porter began the season on the bench but earned a starting role by Week 8.
"I think about that often," said Porter. "If I played Week 1, I don't know how my body would feel right now. I am glad they slowed the process down for me and I am feeling hot right now."
Through 16 games this season, Porter has recorded 42 total tackles, 10 pass defenses and one interception.
"I feel like there are a lot of areas that I need to work on, and I am still working on," said Porter. "Overall, I have grown as a player. I am happy where I am and there is still work to do."
