Biography of Christian McCaffrey
Christian Jackson McCaffrey was born on June 7, 1996 in Castle Rock Colorado to former Stanford University wide receiver and NFL wide receiver Ed McCaffrey and former Stanford football star Lisa McCaffrey. He has three siblings, an older brother, Max, and two younger brothers – Dylan and Luke. According to his father, he started athletics at the age of three and would run around fields trying to play football with his older brother.
Christian attended Valor Christian High School in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. In high school, he played basketball, was a sprinter, and also played football. In football, he played as a record-breaking running back, kicker, cornerback and wide receiver, earning him the Gatorade Most Outstanding Football Player award in 2012 and 2013. He was also a ranked third best all-rounder in his class and 77th best overall.
NFL Career
In 2014, Christian was recruited by Stanford University to play college football on the schools team. As a freshman, he played in 13 games and had 52 touchdown yards. He finished with 300 rushing yards on 17 receptions and two touchdowns. The 2015 season saw a more incredible performance from Christian, who ranked second in the nation and became the first Stanford player to rush to 2000 in one season. He received two awards. the Player of the Year trophy from the Paul Hornung Trophy and the Associated Press College. He was also an All-American Player of the Year and Pac-12 Player of the Year.
In the 2016 season, he picked up where he left off. He led the Pac-12 with a yard of 1,603. He suffered injuries which caused him to miss some of his games, but his overall performance earned him the CoSIDA Academic All-American of the Year award.
At the end of the year, Christian decided to skip an exhibition game to prepare for his preliminary training. He was criticized for abandoning his responsibilities in the team. Most of his fans were disappointed as they expected him to wait until the end of the season which he didn’t. In his draft, he participated in positional drills and was ranked the second-best finalist in the draft by NFL scouts and representatives.
In May 2017, he signed a four-year contract worth $17.2 million with the Carolina Panthers. His contract with them includes additional bonuses worth around $10.7 million. The 2017 season kicked off with Christian playing his first game against the San Francisco 49ers in which he recorded 47 rushing yards and 38 receiving yards. He finished the season with 435 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns, 80 receptions, and 651 touchdowns.

Christian McCaffrey’s father, Ed McCaffrey, who was the head coach at Valor Christian High School, was also a college football player at Stanford University and played professional football as a wide receiver from 1991 to 2003. He is 6 feet tall 5 inches. During his NFL draft, Ed was selected in the third round as the 83rd overall pick by the New York Giants.
He has played for three teams in his thirteen long years which include; the New York Giants, San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos. Ed McCaffrey is a three-time Super Bowl champion. Christian is considered a third generation athlete because his maternal grandfather, Dave Sime, was an Olympic medalist. He was an unbeatable sprinter during the world record era. He won a gold medal at the 1960 Rome Olympics for the 100 meter race and a silver medal, all in the same events.
His uncle, Billy McCaffrey, played basketball at Duke University and became a two-time All-American. Immediately after his retirement, Billy obtained an assistant coaching internship at Bonaventure University, a position that lasted two years. He has since been involved in coaching.
