The crash occurred at about 5 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, on Route 35 southbound near Fred's Bait & Tackle.

A rear-seat passenger of the vehicle was killed on impact, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

An earlier statement from the prosecutor's office incorrectly said the driver was killed.

The driver and another passenger were hospitalized and were being treated for serious injuries.

Traffic was detoured down Route 9 south, Sayreville police said.
