It happened around 7:25 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 16 in East Meadow.

According to Nassau County Police detectives, a 79-year-old man was crossing the roadway in front of 2520 Hempstead Turnpike, when he was struck by a 2017 Lincoln SUV being operated by a 78-year-old man.

As a result of the collision, the pedestrian suffered severe trauma and was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead by a staff physician. His name has not yet been released.

The driver remained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
