Idlewild & SoakZone amusement park opens to public

The rain didn’t stop hundreds of people from gathering at Idlewild & SoakZone Amusement Park Saturday.

Director of Marketing Jeff Croushore said they began letting season pass holders in the park earlier this week, but today, the general public was allowed in.

"Our season usually begins mid-May, but of course with COVID-19, that has set us back quite a number of weeks,” Croushore said.

He says visiting Idlewild & SoakZone this year will be different than any other...in their 143 seasons.

Before coming into the park, everyone must get their temperature checked, and it can’t exceed 100.4 degrees.

Hand sanitizer must also be used before getting on rides.

"The park added over 100 sanitizing stations, and they are located at the entrance to all rides, food stands, and retail gift shops,” Croushore said.

Certain Idlewild classics are closed for the season, including the Jumping Jungle, where the popular ball pit is located.

The SoakZone water park is open, but the Caption Kids slide is closed.

Storybook Forest is also closed for now, but Croushore said it might open back up later this year.

"We are also requiring facial coverings for anyone age 3 and over. Those must be worn in all areas of the park, except while the guest is enjoying the water attractions and SoakZone, while eating, or in our designated mask free zone, located in the center of the park,” Croushore said.

The number of people admitted into the park, and on some rides, will be limited as well.

Season pass holders are able to come any day without an RSVP.

Although, those who wish to purchase a daily ticket must book their date beforehand on the website.

"We are very happy to be able to open, and start providing family fun in the great outdoors of Western Pennsylvania to thousands of guests again,” Croushore said.
