Jennifer Cook on Love On The Spectrum U.S. is an Autism expert and advocate, known for using her “bag of tricks” to get the participants ready for their dates on the show. However, she wasn’t there to change or fix things. All this Autism expert wanted was for the participants to be able to conversate smoothly and boost their confidence.

Get to know her better as this Jennifer Cook proceeds.

Meet Jennifer Cook, The Relationship Coach From Love On The Spectrum U.S.

After a breakout success of the Australian docuseries Love on the Spectrum, the franchise aired its first American version on May 18, 2022, and it consisted of six episodes.

Like the original, the U.S.-based series also followed a group of adults on the Autism spectrum who wanted to fall in love. So, naturally, since they’d be needing a lot of guidance, Jennifer Cook, who is on the Autism spectrum herself, joined the show to guide them before their first big night.

According to Jennifer, she understood the feelings of each participant. Thus, she devised different methods individually to help bring out the best in them. For instance, on the premiere ep, she tossed around a ball with Abbey while the two discussed their common interests. While on the latter ep, she held a mock dinner date for Subodh.

“I had sort of my bag of tricks ready for whomever I was going to meet,” Jennifer shared before explaining that “an easy dialogue can be difficult for people on the spectrum, and being able to switch perspectives and turn-take can be really tricky.”

However, Jennifer isn’t there to fix things. She just wanted to offer a few etiquette tips and to help the participants find topics to talk about with their dates.

“Nobody was trying to be fixed. My role as a coach and my role as a sometimes-teacher was never as a fixer, or as a changer. And that was a big deal,” she explained.

So, how did she land the show? Well, being an Autistic person herself, who went on to Award-winning books like “Asperkids: An Insider’s Guide to Loving, Understanding, and Teaching Children with Asperger Syndrome,” it was only a no-brainer for creator/executive producer Cian O’Clery to hire her.

Jennifer Cook Age

Jennifer Cook was born in 1975. That made her 46 years of age when she appeared on  Love On The Spectrum U.S. in 2022.

All excited about the show, Jennifer took it to her IG back on July 24, 2020, to write, “What do you say, y’all? Think we are ready for a little #loveonthespectrum rep? I think I’m down! #tellmewhatyouthink.”

Jennifer Cook Husband

Jennifer Cook married her husband John Christopher O’Toole on April 28, 2001, at St. Aloysius Church, Caldwell. Together, they share three kids — a daughter named Maura (born in 2003), and two sons Sean and Gavin (born in 2006 and 2009, respectively).

Their oldest, Maura was an expert on ancient history. Her brother Sean, specialized in the classification of animals. Gavin, the youngest, had an encyclopedic knowledge of Spider-Man.

All of her kids often starred in Jennifer’s socials.

Also, like Jennifer, her husband and all of her kids are diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (autism).

Talking a little about Jennifer’s husband, John was a career law enforcement officer who served the country for over 15 years. He is the son of Patrick and Eleanor O’Toole of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.

John’s father was an Arklow, Co Wicklow native who immigrated to the US in the 1930s, later serving as a colonel in the US Marine Corps with postings to Vietnam and Cuba.

As for his education, John is a graduate of Comsewogue High School, Port Jefferson Station, N.Y. Later, he attended the State University of New York where he earned a bachelor of science degree with honors in 1996.

Sadly, Jennifer and John might have separated already.

Fun Fact: John made absolutely no plans for his first date with Jennifer. Infact, it took him seven months to complement Jennifer — and the compliment also only came after Jennifer asked him if he found her pretty.
