September 2024 · 2 minute read

Miranda fans rejoice, there could well be more episodes of the popular BBC sitcom coming your way! Miranda Hart opened up the possibility while on The One Show earlier this week, telling presenters Alex Jones and Amol Rajan that she and Tom Ellis, who played Gary, had spoken about exploring their characters as a married couple when they met up. The actress admitted that it had got her thinking about a new series, saying: "The lovely Tom Ellis was saying that he’d like to see Miranda and Gary married. Now he’s got me thinking! There’s a thought there, to explore the comedy of marriage. Particularly early life marriage and how that would work - I’d quite like to see that."

Miranda debuted on the TV screen back in 2009, with the last season being aired in 2015. The comedy show, which also featured the likes of Sarah Hadland, Patricia Hodge and Sally Phillips, won a Royal Television Society award, and was nominated for several BAFTA TV Awards.

Miranda Hart has revealed she is "thinking" about a new series

The star previously opened up about her character and how fans confuse her with her alter-ego, telling Woman and Home: "I do feel that there is a little confusion in people's minds between the real me and sitcom Miranda. I am pleased that people identify with the character, but I think they want me to be her and are disappointed that the real Miranda doesn't actually fall into graves or be that rubbish at life. Perhaps I should now change my name, call myself Amanda Dart!"

Miranda, who was on the show to talk about her new book, The Girl with the Lost Smile, has enjoyed a busy few years since the last series of her sitcom. Most recently, she portrayed Miss Hannigan in the musical production of Annie, and appeared as Chummy Browne in BBC period drama Call the Midwife.
