Patrick Duffy was born on March 17, 1949 in Townsend, Montana and grew up in Washington from the age of 12. Duffy, who originally wanted to be a professional athlete, knew he wanted to be an actor since his days at Cascade High School. As a member of the school drama club, he acted in many school plays.
He received admission to study at the ProfessionalActors Training Program at the University of Washington, Seattle. Duffy graduated in acting in 1971. Patrick Duffy was born to Marie, a tavern owner, and Terence Duffy. Unfortunately, tragedy struck the Duffys in 1986, when two teenagers murdered Duffy’s parents while attempting to rob their tavern in Boulder, Montana. The boys were convicted and sentenced to 75 years in prison. One of the boys, Miller, who later admitted to being the only gunman in the robbery, was released on parole in December 2007.
Patrick Duffy was married to Carlyn Rosser, who was 10 years his senior from 1974 until her death in 2017. Duffy met his wife on a bus around the same time he was working in Washington as an interpreter for ballet, opera and orchestra companies.
At the time, Carlyn was a ballet dancer with the First Chamber Dance Company of New York. She originally started her career as a child actress before turning to ballet dancing at age 14.
