BOALSBURG, Pa. (WJAC) — A possible case of measles was reported Thursday morning in Centre County.
According to a Mount Nittany Health representative, the possible case was reported at the Mount Nittany Physician Group Pediatrics location at Mount Nittany Health in Boalsburg.
The physicians group reported the possible case immediately to the Pennsylvania Department of Health out of an abundance of caution, officials say.
“(Staff) followed all DOH guidelines to ensure the safety of patients and staff. Our first priority is to protect the health of our patients and the community," officials said.
The location is now open and operating as normal.
We reached out to the Department of Health regarding the situation, officials there say:
"The department is working with Mount Nittany Pediatric Center in Boalsburg as part of a disease investigation."
According to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control, measles is a highly contagious but vaccine-preventable disease that can spread through coughing, sneezing or other contact with the mucus or saliva of an infected person.
