As the NFL season is set to return this coming Thursday, teams are dwindling their rosters to their final 53-man squad.

On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Steelers released a few notable players to set their official roster.

Wide-receiver Ryan Switzer was the most notable player that the Steelers released.

Switzer had spent the last two seasons in black and gold, primarily as a special teams player and occasional slot receiver.

Other notable players who were released include RB Trey Edmunds, backup quarterback Paxton Lynch, former Penn State wide-receivers Saeed Blacknall and DeAndre Thompkins, WR Deon Cain and defensive lineman Daniel McCullers.

According to the news release on the team's website, all of the decisions on who to keep and who to let go were based upon training camp, since there was no preseason.

"I feel like I have enough information to make decisions, and that's a good thing because it's time to make decisions," said Tomlin on Friday after the final practice of camp. "I thought we made good use of the time and good use of the structure of the time that was provided in terms of the work allotted."

The Steelers kickoff their season Sept. 14, on Monday Night Football, against the New York Giants.
