STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (WJAC) — In Centre County, it's festival week with three festivals happening this week
The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts got underway Wednesday with the traditional children’s day.
The 53rd edition of the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts caused a busy day in State College. Many locals say it’s like a neighborhood block party with kids and their parents on hand.
The grand procession, which is the parade for kids, was held Wednesday as plenty of other events are planned as we head into what looks to be a busy festival weekend.
It’s designed to help kids learn all about art, among other things.
And the agenda is also pretty simple for the younger set.
By midmorning, the crowds were forming in downtown State College, including 250 young artists with their version of sidewalk sales, plus a host of other events, with the parents' stamp of approval.
On the Old Main lawn -- creative activities, some with science thrown in, including the creation of miniature lava lamps.
Of course, there’s plenty of music and other entertainment activities.
Thursday, it’s the start of sidewalk sales with 300 exhibitors from around the world.
The festival runs through Sunday, with well over 100,000 visitors expected.
Also, Thursday is the start of the People’s Choice Festival in Boalsburg at the Pennsylvania Military Museum and in Philipsburg, it’s Heritage Days this week.
